In the Central Conference, Ninth Episcopal District in 1994 while serving as Pastor of Gt. Mt. Calvary AME Church Selma, Al. Rev. Smith served as pastor of Gt. Mt. Calvary for 17 years before being assigned to Antioch AME Church Gainestown, Al. where he served for 6 years. Rev. Smith is a graduate of Wallace Community College and Concordia Selma, Al. Rev. Smith was the 1th black rural carrier hired in Dallas Co. Al. by the U S postal service where he served for 28 years before retiring in 2009. Rev. Smith served in the U S Air Force from 1965 to 1969, and the Al. National Guard where he was commissioned the 1th black warrant officer. Rev. Smith served for 28 years before retiring in 1997. Rev. Smith has been happily married for 45 years

To his coworker in the ministry, Thelma Whatley Smith. They are the proud parents of three adult children, and five grandchildren.
